About Deb
I’m Deb, an Australian abstract artist working from my studio on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
My work is inspired by the quiet beauty of the Australian landscape and coast, and by the ever-changing relationship between land, water and light.
I create original abstract paintings through an intuitive process of layering, scraping and building texture. I’m drawn to earthy neutrals, coastal blues and the subtle colours found in the Australian landscape.
My Ocean & Earth series explores the meeting point between land and sea through restrained palettes and expressive, sculptural surfaces.
Each original is created by hand in my Sunshine Coast studio.

Behind the Paint
Painting is where I slow down, experiment and allow an idea to unfold.
I rarely begin with a completely finished image in mind. Instead, I build the surface gradually — adding paint, scraping it back, shifting colour and responding to what is happening on the canvas.
I love the unexpected marks and textures that emerge through this process. Some layers disappear completely while others remain visible, creating depth, movement and a sense of history within the painting.
My studio practice is intuitive and hands-on. I work with palette knives and layered paint, allowing each piece to develop in its own way rather than forcing it towards a predetermined result.
The finished painting is less about reproducing a particular place and more about capturing a feeling of landscape, light and atmosphere.
