Spring Tide is part of my Ocean & Earth collection, inspired by the meeting of Australia's coastline, ocean and earth.
Created through expressive layers of acrylic paint, this work explores the contrast between deep Southern Ocean blue, soft coastal blues and the warm, sandy tones of the shoreline. Layers are scraped, pulled and reworked across the surface, allowing earlier colours and textures to emerge through the later layers.
My scraping technique has become an increasingly important part of my practice. Rather than working to completely conceal what lies beneath, I allow the process to reveal unexpected marks, variations and fragments of colour. Each pass of the palette knife leaves something behind while taking something away, creating a surface with depth, movement and an organic sense of change.
Spring Tide is a calm yet textural coastal abstract, designed to bring the feeling of the ocean into contemporary, coastal and neutral interiors.
